Woman charged with daughter’s murder after she ‘intentionally drove’ in front of UPS truck. A South Euclid woman is facing multiple charges related to a collision with a UPS semi-truck that occurred back in late January.
Kia Ferguson, age 37, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet on January 25th on Interstate 90 West between State Routes 306 and 615.
A 9-month investigation of the accident concluded with Mentor police officials announcing the findings on Monday. According to a press release issued by the city, the “thorough investigation” made it clear that Ferguson “intentionally drove in front of the semi-truck.”
Initial reports stated that the tractor-trailer struck Ferguson’s vehicle – pushing her Chevrolet down an embankment.
At the time of the crash, Kia was traveling with her two children: a 10-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. Her daughter, 10-year-old Ji Ferguson, was sitting in the right rear passenger seat of the Chevrolet at the time of the crash. She died from the injuries that she suffered during the accident. Kia and her 6-year-old son were in critical condition. They were both transported to area hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was reportedly uninjured.
The aftermath of the crash led to the closing of Interstate 90 west. It remained closed for nearly four hours.
The report further stated that the case was then transferred to the Lake County Prosecutor and Grand Jury for the consideration of formal charges. According to Fox 8 News, the Grand Jury processed six felony charges against Kia. The News-Herald reports that Ferguson faces two charges of aggravated murder, a second-degree felonious assault charge, two counts of child endangerment (2nd degree felony) and two additional counts of child endangerment (3rd degree felony).
The pre-trial hearing for this case is currently scheduled for October 23rd in the courtroom of Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Pat Condon.
